Green City Market to Move Indoors

Sadly, the time has come. Daylight savings is upon us. And the last outdoor Green City Market Saturday is upon us.

But there’s a positive spin to everything…right? Daylight savings means brighter mornings for early workout people like me. And Green City Market’s not going away, just going indoors. We’ll still have plenty of apples, root vegetables and hearty greens for a little while longer.

The last outdoor market runs this Sat., Oct. 29 and the first indoor market is Sat. Nov. 5 at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive, second floor. The indoor market will run every Saturday November through April (excluding holidays and a three-week break in January) from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., including two Wednesdays right before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Here’s the full sked:

November: 5, 12, 19 and Wed. 23

December:  3, 10, 17 and Wed. 21

January: 21, 28

February: 4, 11, 18, 25

March: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

April: 7, 14, 21, 28

Chef demos will continue to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Market days.

Also, new this year is the Chefs Garage, Tag & Bake Sale, held November 12 at NAHA from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This cash & carry pre-holiday event features items donated from Chicago chefs and their colleagues around the country, raising funds for the Les Dames d’Escoffier Chicago Scholarship and Green Table initiatives and for the GCM Farmer Education Programs. One Green Table initiative involves Les Dames members teaching children from the McCormick Boys & Girls Club about gardening and healthy living and cooking.
